ITANAGAR, 23 Sep: The agriculture department of Himalayan University (HU), in collaboration with the Papum Pare KVK, organised a skill orientation programme on ‘Organic farming and integrated farming system’ for the university’s final year BSc agriculture students at the KVK on Monday.
The Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) programme was aimed at updating the students’ knowledge of organic farming and the integrated farming system.
HU agriculture HoD Dr Raja Husain led the programme, along with faculty members Dr Lipi, Dr Sonbeer and Dr Kasinam.
Dr Husain advised the students to “update your knowledge about the modern approaches to organic and integrated farming, which is being used in the Papum Pare KVK,” while KVK Head Dr Bangkeng Perme assured future collaboration with the HU’s agriculture department for the benefit of the students.
KVK agronomist Tadang Meena spoke about “research projects and their funding agencies, activities and demonstration units of the KVK,” the university informed in a release.
The HU team inspected the farmhouse and the demonstration units of the KVK, where Meena explained “crop trial having the intercropping of millet and soybean crops and benefits of intercropping of both crops in reference to crop yield,” the release added.
KVK fisheries scientist Dr Vivekanand Safi delivered a talk on integrated farming, and explained the procedure and conditions for rearing different speeches of fishes.
KVK horticulture scientist Hemanta Ngangbam explained “the management practices of horticultural crops via natural farming” and the “production and management practices of pineapple in Arunachal’sconditions,” it said.
Twenty-seven final year BSc agriculture students participated in the programme, the university informed.
