KAMPORIJO, 5 Dec: Thirteen airguns were surrendered during an Airgun Surrender Abhiyan organised here in Kamle district on Thursday.
In initiative of the Nyishi Elite Society (NES) and the district administration, the event was held concurrently with an awareness programme on wildlife and forest at the CO office here.
During the programme, which was chaired by Kamporjo CO Balo Shakak, Boasimla Range RFO Reddy Bei underscored the significance of flora and fauna in daily life and educated the attendees about the prevailing laws against illegal poaching.
He also informed about the significance of the food chain system and the crucial role that forests play in the discharge of water in catchment areas, stated a release.
Kamporijo Block-I ZPM Rakhe Taro advocated complete ban on hunting and logging, and announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for the “best informant against illegal poachers,” to be paid by the CO.
Kamle NES unit president Dr Sopin and panchayat leaders and gaon burah from Kamporijo block-I participated in the programme.
Meanwhile, a memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Joint Mega Nyokum Yullo Celebration Committee, Kamporijo Circle-2025 and the Kamporijo administration to prohibit the sale of wild animal meat during the festivities in Boasimla.
The CO further asked the GBs to take a leading role by providing a list of individuals involved in illegal hunting in their respective villages.
