PASIGHAT, 10 Feb: A field demonstration on scientific cultivation of faba bean was organised by the College of Horticulture & Forestry (CHF) here in East Siang district on Monday to mark the World Pulses Day.
Twenty farmers and farmwomen of East Siang, along with members of SHGs and BSc horticulture/forestry students participated in the programme, during which CHF Dean Prof D K Pandey and Associate Professor Dr Barun Singh highlighted the importance of potential crops like faba bean and adzuki bean, “based on improved technology for enhancing area, production and sustainability of the farming system,” the CHF informed in a release.
The duo also highlighted the potential use of pulses for better human health and animal health. They said that all other pulses also are important for soil health, soil fertility and crop biodiversity.
East Siang KVK food technology and nutrition expert Dr Eloni Vida and KVK horticulture scientist Dr Navya Bhatt also spoke on the importance of pulses in nutrition of human and animal health.
AICRN on Potential Crops Professor P Debnath spoke on the benefits of potential crops, and highlighted the importance of faba bean in climate change and sustainable soil health management.
Agriculture inputs like knapsack sprayers, biofertiliser, and spades were distributed among the farmers and farmwomen.
