World Poetry Day celebrated at DNGC, JNC

ITANAGAR, 21 Mar: The Literary Club of Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) celebrated the World Poetry Day at the college’s Orchid Lawn here on Friday, bringing together students, faculty members and literature enthusiasts.

The event featured poetry recitations by 15 student poets and 10 faculty members, all of whom enthralled the audience with their creative expressions. More than 100 lovers of poetry and creative writing gathered under the natural canopy of trees, making the setting an ideal backdrop for an evening of literary appreciation.

Delivering the keynote address, Commerce HoD Dr AK Pandey emphasised the significance of poetry in personal and societal growth. He highlighted the essence of the World Poetry Day, and encouraged budding poets, saying that “engaging in creative pursuits leaves no room for negativity, and fosters constructive contributions to society.”

DNGC Principal Dr MQ Khan underscored the importance of creative writing, and urged the audience to continue nurturing their literary talents.

A special highlight of the event was the poetry recitation by renowned, award-winning poet and writer Dr Taro Sindik, whose words resonated deeply with the audience.

The event saw the presence of faculty members, including JR Padhi, Dr Joram Ania, Dr Mema Chiri, Tamo Yanga, and Topi Bagra.

The event was curated by the Literary Club’s conveners Nending Ommo, Joram Renu and Dr Mema Chiri.

In East Siang district, the Hindi department and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Jawaharlal Nehru College (JNC) in Pasighat, in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society’s (APLS) East Siang branch and the Bodum Collective, organised a poetry reading session to celebrate the World Poetry Day.

The event saw the participation of over 30 students from various departments, who presented both original and classic poems in Hindi and English. Geography Associate Professor Dr KK Mishra, English Assistant Professor Dr Abani Doley, and Arunachal Pradesh University Assistant Professor Dr Terbi Loyi also presented poems.

Renowned Adi poet and APLS East Siang branch adviser Kaling Borang and sectoral secretary Otul Jerang recited poetry in the Adi language.

APLS East Siang branch president Ponung Ering Angu highlighted the significance of the World Poetry Day.

JNC Vice-Principal Dr Leki Sitang said that “poetry is the finest expression of one’s feelings,” and encouraged the students to incorporate Arunachali Hindi into their poetry writing. (With input from DIPRO)
