Affordable healthcare for all

According to government statistics, more than 200 patients have received kidney transplants under the Government of Arunachal Pradesh’ state-run Chief Minister Organ Transplant Scheme (CMOTS) in the last seven years.

Under the new phase of the CMOTS, the chief minister announced that the government is expanding financial support to Rs 10 lakh for kidney transplants, Rs 15 lakh for bone marrow transplants, and Rs 20 lakh for liver transplants.

The Tertiary Cancer Centre under the Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences, established in April 2017, is already providing cancer treatment, and many patients have been able to benefit from its facilities.

Such sustained government intervention is crucial, as many patients struggle to afford treatment for critical illnesses that require significant financial resources. This support should be further expanded, so that financially weaker sections of society also have a chance at life.

However, healthcare in the state still requires drastic improvements, as it remains not only inaccessible but also unavailable in many areas, forcing people to seek treatment outside the state.

Therefore, the state must prioritize the expansion of healthcare services, including critical care interventions, in major hospitals and ensure that quality healthcare is accessible to all citizens.
