The improving ties

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is set to begin his two-day visit to India on Monday for the next round of border talks over the dispute regarding the 3,488 km Line of Actual Control (LAC) between the two countries.
This is the 24th meeting of the special representatives on the China-India boundary issue.
The Indian counterpart had travelled to China in December last year and held the 23rd round of talks with Yi.
The talks follow after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping decided to revive various dialogue mechanisms between the two sides at their meeting during the BRICS summit in Russia.
Yi’s visit is important as it shows the commitment of both countries towards the establishment of normal ties and continued engagement between the two countries after relations hit a new low following border tensions. The neighbouring countries must keep up the tempo, as a peaceful region benefits both states. Though mutual distrust defines the relationship between the two countries, the recent efforts point to a renewed willingness, which is a positive sign and will go a long way in ensuring stability in the region.
