ITANAGAR, 18 Sep: The All Arunachal Contractor’s Welfare Association (AACWA) has appealed to the state government to instruct the Arunachal Public Works Department to split the proposed ministers’ bungalows construction project into separate packages to ensure equal opportunity for local firms.

In a representation to the chief minister on Wednesday, the AACWA stated that “the state government is going to allocate huge funds for construction of a total of 18 bungalows for ministers but the PWD has proposed to make it into a single package (estimated to be hundred crores in amount),which will mean that only firms from outside the state will be eligible to take up the project and local firms will be ignored.”

“Whereas the department can break up the sanctioned amount of above Rs 20-crore scheme into small packages to restrict the participation of other district firms within a district, then why can’t the state government split these projects for the eligible Class-I (AA), Class-I (A) Class-I and Class-II registered contractors of the state? Many buildings of state government, like the ATI, APPCS, secretariat, state assembly, mini-secretariat and even TRIHMS is constructed by local contractors,” the AACWA said, and appealed to the state government to instruct the department concerned to “make DPR/estimate into packages to ensure equal opportunity.”
