DOLLUNGMUKH, 14 Mar: Thirty-five women members from self-help groups participated in a training programme on ‘Scientific ration balancing for enhanced livestock and poultry productivity’, which was organised at Kolaptukar here in Kamle district on Saturday.

The programme aimed to enhance knowledge and skills in scientific livestock and poultry management for improved productivity and livelihood generation. It was inaugurated in the presence of, among others, Dollungmukh SDO Nabam Tarang and NABARD District Development Officer Dr Lalit Kumar Maurya.

The training programme was conducted under the guidance of IARI Assam Director Dr Ch Srinivasa Rao, with support from Dr AK Balange, CIC and head, division of animal, poultry and fisheries sciences, ARI, Assam.

The programme included lectures and practical demonstrations on scientific ration balancing, mash and pellet feed formulation, fodder cultivation, and the relationship between nutrition, milk production and animal health. The participants actively engaged in the hands-on sessions and gained valuable insights into improved livestock and poultry management practices.

Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science Associate Professor Dr Ashim Kumar Saikia emphasised the importance of balanced feeding for enhancing livestock productivity and farmers’ income. The participants were also provided with commercial feed, mineral mixture, dewormer and liver tonic to support better livestock management.

The programme was organised by the School of Animal Sciences and Fisheries, Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Assam.
