ITANAGAR, 20 Mar: Seventy-seven athletes from Arunachal Pradesh will participate in the inaugural Khelo India Tribal Games 2026, scheduled to be held in Chattisgarh from 25 March to 6 April.
Arunachal will compete across disciplines, including athletics, archery, football, weightlifting, and wrestling.
The state contingent was flagged from the state banquet hall here on Friday in the presence of Sports and Youth Affairs Secretary Abu Tayeng.
Addressing the athletes, the secretary highlighted the significance of the CM ACES initiative, and encouraged them by citing the recent achievements of para athletes Biri Takar and Tingong Wangpan. He also spoke about the state government’s key initiatives like Mission Olympic and the State Games, aimed at strengthening the sporting ecosystem.
Referring to the last National Games, he noted the commendable performance of the state’s contingent, which secured 13 medals from a team of 39 athletes. He assured that the government would extend all possible support for the development of sports and athletes in the state.
Conveying the team his best wishes, Tayeng emphasised the importance of discipline and conduct, stating that athletes represent the face of the state and must uphold its dignity at all times.
Lakhpa Tsering, a prominent veteran rally racer of India, also addressed the gathering and motivated the athletes with encouraging words.
The event was attended by Youth Affairs Director Ramesh Lingi, Sports Deputy Director Mala Lingi, Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy Principal Likha Vidha, and officials of the department of sports and the department of youth affairs.
