ITANAGAR, Dec 7: The Arunachal Pradesh College’s Forum in a representation to Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Thursday demanded that the fund allocation for the construction of a Buddhist college in Namsai, under the SIDF, be withdrawn, arguing that the proposed college is a religion-based educational institution.
Stating that the government cannot fund any particular religious institute as it will be against the Constitution, the forum appealed to the DyCM to immediately withdraw the fund allocation to all private institutes of the state.
‘There are many government degree and diploma colleges in the state which lack basic facilities. Instead of providing fund for the development of those colleges, how can the government release huge amounts of funds against the Buddhist college in Namsai and other private colleges in the state?’ the forum sought to know.
It has threatened to resort to democratic action if its demand is not met within 15 days.
