NEW DELHI, 8 Feb: Arunachal Governor BD Mishra briefed Defence Minister Raj Nath Singh on the state government’s proposal of making a memorial to Major Bob Khathing in Tawang.
Meeting with the defence minister in New Delhi on 7 January, the governor requested the defence minister to locate land for making the memorial in the Army’s Tawang cantonment.
Calling for contribution from the defence ministry, the governor said that the memorial would be of huge historical importance.
They also discussed various issues related to national security and national border situation and the dispositions of the armed forces.
The governor reiterated his appeal for special provision for the youth of Arunachal by facilitating more pre-recruitment training by the units of the armed forces stationed in the state.
The governor also raised the issue of border roads and bridges by the Border Roads Organization – particularly for the Miao-Vijoynagar road – under various flagship programmes of the central government.
The governor said that the people of Arunachal share bonhomie with the security forces.
“The people have cordial relationships with defence forces stationed in the state, while the state government ensures basic means of communication, like porter tracks, log and crisscross suspension bridges. The forces, through their goodwill and Samaritan projects, have won the heart and mind of the local populace,” he said, and suggested to the defence minister to ensure more such initiatives in Arunachal.
