ITANAGAR, Jan 5: The All East Kameng District Students’ Union (AEKDSU) on Friday questioned the Special Investigation Team’s (SIT) pace of investigation into the mysterious death of Class XII student Toko Yame in Tawang.
In a representation to the superintendent of police (crime) here, the AEKDSU expressed resentment over the delay in the investigation, stating that there has been no outcome to the case (Tawang PS Case No 29/17 U/S 363/302 IPC) in the last three months.
‘We along with the aggrieved family are patiently waiting for the outcome of the SIT investigation; but, to our dismay, some of the alleged accused are roaming scot-free,’ it said.
The union also alleged that, during the incident, some police personnel who were on duty were present at the spot but the manner in which they handled the situation seemed ‘incompetent and suspicious.’
The union rued that the SIT – one of the highest investigation departments in the police – has failed to unearth the truth and deliver justice to the aggrieved family.
Stating that delaying the investigation ‘casts doubt over the current SIT team and the department as a whole,’ the AEKDSU through its representation served a 15-day ultimatum to the SIT to ‘come up with a logical conclusion to the case.’
Toko Yame was a student of Class XII at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Tawang. He went missing after a scuffle involving students of the JNV and the government higher secondary school broke out on 16 September, 2017.
His semi-decomposed body was later found at Biga Bridge waterfall, near the JNV campus in Tawang, on 24 September.
