ITANAGAR, Sep 14: Along with the rest of the nation, ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’, a nationwide sanitation campaign will be launched by Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein at the state Banquet Hall here on September 15 next.
The fortnight long campaign will be celebrated across the state from September 15 to Oct 2 next, culminating with Gandhi Jayanti.
A meeting was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Shakuntala D Gamlin to chalk out the various programmes to be organized as part of ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ campaign.
Sharing details of the meeting, Sanitation, PHE & WS Chief Engineer, Toko Jyoti informed that participation of academia, trade associations, NGOs /CBOs, women organizations, etc will be solicited to make the event a success.
“Large-scale cleaning of hospitals, schools, colleges, places of worship, parks, bus, taxi stands and sumo stops, ponds, lakes, public toilets etc will be taken up. In addition, there shall be simultaneous mass awareness campaign for promotion of ‘Twin Pit Toilet Technology’ and cleanliness, health and hygiene using efficient and effective use of social, audio-visual and print media and also by engaging change agents like school children, women and grassroots leaders to create awareness and public participation for visible sanitation improvement during the campaign period,” added CE Jyoti.
Further, he added that several other programmes are lined up and appealed to the people to participate in the campaign to make it a success.
“It is the duty of every citizen to keep the state clean and help to develop Arunachal as top tourist destination,” said the CE.
In the districts, cleanliness drives shall be undertaken in iconic places, like Tawang Monastery, Upper Gompa, Malinithan, Bhismaknagar, Parshuram Kund, Golden Pagoda, War Memorial, rivers, streams, waterfalls, etc.
The PHE & WS along with Urban Development department will provide logistic support for the campaign.
