Itanagar, Jan 24: Two Army vehicles were slightly damaged when suspected insurgents detonated a blast on Namsai-Nangtao road in South Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district at around 7-20 on Wednesday morning when the Army team was returning from conducting operation against insurgents.
A Defence source said there was an ongoing operation against insurgents in the area which is known for presence of insurgents belonging to the banned ULFA (Independent) and Naga rebel group NSCN-K, according to a report published in the Shillong Times.
There was no casualty because of the blast and a search operation has been launched in the area. The bomb was suspected to be planted under the road.
The security forces have mounted surveillance and intensified operation against insurgents along Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border areas to check cross-border movements of the militants in the run up to the Republic Day.
The state police forces of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh too have geared up coordinated operation and intelligence sharing to prevent militants from striking terror around Republic Day. All the inter-state roads have been put under strict surveillance while patrolling has been intensified in the area by the Army and paramilitary forces in coordination with police forces of both the states.
