KHONSA, Jan 29: The Tirap District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) organised an awareness programme on ‘Harmful effects of tobacco consumption and its consequences to health and society’ at Christ the King Secondary School here on 29 January.
Altogether 138 students took part in the awareness programme.
Social work mobiliser Tai Bai briefed the students and teachers on the ill-effects of tobacco through a PowerPoint presentation and video session.
Consultant Nijali Tacho highlighted the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, and the introduction of the DTCC and its counselling cell at the general hospital here.
A similar programme was organised at the government town secondary school here on 27 January, which saw the participation of 250 students.
