ITANAGAR, 15 Dec: Hundreds joined in the candlelight procession organized by the Toko Welfare Association (TWA) and its youth wing, Toko Youth Welfare Association (TYWA) on Wednesday evening, seeking justice for the two brothers, who were murdered at Harmutty, Assam.
The procession began from Rajiv Gandhi University, Tinali and ended at the residence of Toko Runel (the deceased’s father) in Nirjuli.
The deceased Toko Riyam (24) and Toko Ratam, (19) were the sons of Toko Runel of Talo village currently residing in Nirjuli.
Speaking to media persons, TYWA president Toko Lento termed the case of the brothers as ‘rarest of the rare.’
“We appeal to the state government especially, the home department to monitor this heinous crime on priority basis at the highest level with the Assam counterpart to ensure the arrest of all suspects and exemplary punishment to them as per the law, as the incident occurred in an area bordering neighboring state Assam,” he added
He also appealed to the Assam police to conduct fair investigation.
Lento while narrating the incident informed that on 29 November last, the brothers went to attend a mela in Harmutty, Assam and on the same fateful evening went missing.
“The following morning, a case of missing persons was lodged at the Nirjuli police station. Later in the day, their bodies were found near Harmutty Railway Bridge. Accordingly, a case of murder was registered at Laluk police station, under the jurisdiction of Superintendent of Police (SP) Lakhimpur, Assam. The case is under investigation, and so far one prime suspect has been arrested in the case and the rest are still absconding,” the TYWA president added.
