BOMDILA, 11 Feb: The members of the West Kameng district unit of the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) paid floral tributes to legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar at the government college here on Friday.
While paying homage to the Nightingale of India, APLS district president Dr Vineeta Dowerah said that music and literature are strongly interconnected, “simply because music is a genre of
literature and both music and literature are creative works of art.”
“Music is also narrowed down to oral literature, since its presentation and performance involves the word of mouth,” he said.
The APLS unit’s general secretary Dr Alok Kr Singh spoke about the life and contributions of Mangeshkar, and said that she had been the most influential singer of the nation.
“After the Sino-India war of 1962, Lata’s song ‘E mere watan ke logon’, which she sang at the National Stadium in Delhi on 26 January, 1963, inspired and motivated not only the Indian Army but also the entire country,” Dr Singh said.
A short documentary on Mangeshkar’s life was presented by APLS West Kameng convenor Tashi Dorjee Megeji.
The college’s students paid ‘song-tribute’ in memory of the melody queen.
Earlier, a two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect for the departed soul.
Government College Principal Sangja Khandu, faculty members, staffers and students of the college attended the programme.
