ITANAGAR, 2 Apr: Tourism Minister Nakap Nalo, who is an alumnus of the government higher secondary school (GHSS) in Upper Subansiri HQ Daporijo, said he would extend all possible help and assistance in regaining the lost glory of his alma mater.
Attending a meeting of the school’s alumni association here on Saturday, Nalo said that he, along with the district’s MLAs Rode Bui, Tanya Soki and Nyato Dukam – all of them alumni of the GHSS – will meet the Upper Subansiri DC soon to discuss the school’s development.
The minister advised the alumni association to “coordinate with the senior officers and citizens of the district and visit the school from time to time to know the problems faced by the students and the teachers.”
Daporijo MLA Tanya Soki also assured the alumni of his support for further development of the school.
Serving a warning to those who have encroached on the school’s land, Soki said that nobody should come and seek any help from him when the authority starts taking action against the land encroachers. He said that stringent action must be initiated against the encroachers.
Soki proposed to his colleagues to contribute at least Rs 1 crore each for infrastructure development of the school.
Disaster Management & Rehabilitation Director Komkar Dulom emphasised on posting of subject teachers and “creation of double TGT posts for the school.”
Dulom appealed to all former students of the GHSS to give back to their alma mater in whatever capacity they can.
PWD SE Dube Dulom requested Nalo, who is also the land management minister, to instruct the deputy commissioner to issue provisional land allotment certificates to all the government departments in the district before the departments are shifted to the mini-secretariat, which is likely to be completed in a couple of months, to avoid encroachment on the departments’ land.
All four MLAs of the district assured to contribute Rs 20 lakhs each to revive the past glory of the GHSS.
The participants resolved that Nalo, along with the three MLAs of the district, in coordination with the alumni association, will pursue with the authorities concerned the matter of construction of residential quarters for the teachers, the principal and the vice principal of the school.
Other resolutions adopted included construction of the school gate through crowdfunding, and felicitation of the meritorious students of the GHSS.
Alumni association chairman Dosh Dasi made a presentation on various activities undertaken by the association so far. He said that 31 former students have contributed in cash and kind to their alma mater so far.
Tagin Cultural Society president Larji Rigia, ex-MLA Larbin Nasi, Itanagar STS Senior Station Superintendent Tuter Dulom, Govt. UPS C-Sector Itanagar Headmaster Roke Tamin, and WRD SE Tadam Ligu also spoke.
Before the start of the meeting, the participants observed a two-minute silence for late Dr Mini Hangkar (DVO), late Tachu Hina (ex-DVP), late Prakash Mara (head assistant at DC’s office) and late Dr Nanak Murtem, who passed away recently.
