RONO HILLS, 22 May: Around 32 research scholars and faculty members from different departments, universities and colleges participated in a three-day national workshop on ‘Statistics and data handling using Excel and SPSS’, organised recently by the economics and the statistics & zoology departments of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) here.
On 18 May, addressing the inaugural function, RGU Vice Chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha stressed on enhancing the research scholars’ skills through such workshops and urged the economics department’s Centre for Development Studies to organise similar workshops “for the faculty members of the university and colleges and the non-teaching staff of the university, in order to enhance their research abilities.”
Pro-VC Prof Amitava Mitra said that “the use of statistical data and SPSS are ever increasing in social science research,” and urged the organisers to “include research scholars who also use statistical data in their research work from various other departments as participants in future programmes.”
RGU Economics Head Prof Vandana Upadhyay, Prof SK Nayak of the economics department, Social Sciences Dean Prof Sarit K Chaudhuri, RGU Registrar Dr NT Rikam, and Varanasi-based Banaras Hindu University Statistics Professor Gyan Prakash Singh also spoke.
