MIAO, 10 Feb: After a gap of eight years, a tiger has been spotted once again in the Namdapha National Park and Tiger Reserve in Changlang district.
A team of researchers working under the environment, forest & climate change department had set up camera traps in the park after noticing pugmarks.
On Wednesday, when the team went to check the camera, much to their joy, they saw a tiger in it. The tiger is an adult and relatively old.
The team, consisting of Research Officer Tajum Yomcha, field biologist Mayur Variya, camera technician Atum Rumdo and other forest officials, had set the camera traps in the first week of this month.
On 31 January, information was received regarding the presence of large pugmarks in the 17th Mile area in Deban, following which a survey was conducted the next day (1 February) from 17th Mile up to 20th Mile, and camera traps were placed accordingly at all entry and exit points in the jungle.
“We set up 10 camera traps in a 2 square KM area in the Deban forest region. On Wednesday when the team checked the camera, we saw a tiger. This is a great success story for our team,” said Namdapha National Park & Tiger Reserve Field Director Aduk Paron. The last tiger, photo trapped in NTR was in the year 2015.
