ITANAGAR, 2 May: The first-ever Pasang Wangchuk Sona State Level Memorial Hockey Championship will be held in memory of former minister late Pasang Wangchuk Sona, from 24 to 31 May.
The championship will be held at the Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA) in Chimpu, and players from 18 districts will be participating. The districts are Tirap, Changlang, Longding, Kra Daadi, Kurung Kumey, Upper Subansiri, Lower Subansiri, Siang, Itanagar Capital Region, East Siang, Leparada, Pakke-Kessang, Kamle, Papum Pare, Upper Siang, and Lower Siang.
The practice for the event is underway from 24 April to 24 May at the SLSA.
The prize for the winner in the senior men’s category is Rs 50,000, and for the second runner-up in the same category, it is Rs 25,000. The first and second prize money in the senior women’s event is Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000, respectively.
“The Arunachal Pradesh Hockey Association (APHA) was established in 2010, and in 2019, it was about to start its first championship. However, due to Covid-19, it could not be started. The association is in a permanent association with Hockey India, the Arunachal Olympic Association, and the Sports Authority of Arunachal,” informed APHA organising secretary Nabam Isaac.
The press meet was attended also by APHA joint secretary Yani Tamin and organising chairman Hillang Nima.
Legislative Assembly Speaker PD Sona and Chayang Tajo MLA Hayeng Mangfi are the patrons.
