ITANAGAR, Mar 9: The Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has called upon people of state to wage a war against drug addictions with an objective of healthy Arunachal for healthy India. He made this call while attending the State Level Co-ordination Committee Meeting on Drug Abuse here on Wednesday. Further Mein called for zero tolerance to drug addictions and pitched for formulation of comprehensive action plan to deal with the menace.
Chief Secretary, Satya Gopal who presided over the meeting sought strict action against the drug peddlers and stated that those found involved in such illegal activities should be booked under stringent NDPS Act. He instructed all the link departments like narcotic cell, Police and social justice to work in coordination. He also warned of strong action against the Govt officials if found involved in drug addictions and related activities.
Secretary Home, G S Meena elaborated on legal farming as adopted in the other states of India and other models of alternative livelihood development programme in the world. Secretary Horticulture Mimum Tayeng explained in detail about the action being taken up by the Horticulture Department for alternative livelihood Development against Opium cultivation.
The State Nodal Officer, Narcotic Cell, Oli Koyu presented a comprehensive state action plan to mitigate the drugs menace to the state level committee.
The State Level Co-ordination Committee further stressed for committee within the link deptt and development of comprehensive narcotics plan to deal with the drug addict, peddlers, middle men, traffickers, mafia, land owner and opium growers and also to form narcotics control bureau for affective administration of drugs enforcement.
Commissioner (Tax & Excise), Marnya Ete, Secretary Agriculture Y W Ringu, IGP (ITBP), Zonal Director, NCB Guwahati, DCs & SPs of affected districts among many others also attended the meeting and put forward their suggestions to tackle the growing menace.
