PASIGHAT, 18 Nov: The College of Agriculture (CoA) here in East Siang district organised a ‘Farmer field day on improved varieties of finger millet’ at Mikong village in Ruksin on Friday.
The programme was aimed at encouraging the farmers to cultivate improved millet varieties.
CoA Dean Dr AK Tripathi and Assistant Professor Dr Premaradhya encouraged the farmers to adopt millet cultivation for commercial purposes.
The organisers honoured Taker Panyang, of Mikong village, for taking up finger millet (variety-GPU-67) cultivation in three acres of land, replacing paddy cultivation, thereby inspiring other farmers of the area to grow millet.
Forty farmers, including 25 women, from different villages in Ruksin and Bilat circles participated in the programme, which was sponsored by Hyderabad (Telangana)-based Indian Institute of Millets Research.
