ITANAGAR, Mar 31: A legal awareness programme on child labour and child trafficking was organised by Childline Itanagar, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), at the Don Bosco Youth Centre here on Saturday.
DLSA Chairperson Jaweplu Chai spoke about the provisions under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012.
Quoting from the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act, 2015, Child Welfare Committee chairperson Kani Nada Maling said: “Any person who sells or buys a child for any purpose shall be punishable with rigorous imprisonment for a term which may be extended to five years, and shall be liable to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh.”
Advocate Oyam Binggep spoke about the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2016. She warned about imprisonment and penalty for employing a child under the age of 14, which includes imprisonment up to one year and a fine that extends up to Rs 20,000.
The programme saw the participation of police personnel, anganwadi workers, school teachers, and traffic wardens of the capital complex.
