The Arunachal Pradesh Tribal Contractor Welfare Association (APTCWA) has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Pema Khandu, seeking his intervention to relocate the regional office (RO) of the ministry of road transport & highway (MoRTH) from Tezpur (Assam) to Itanagar. The regional office of the MoRTH, which was earlier established in Itanagar, was shifted to Tezpur a few years back. One of the main reasons cited for shifting of the office was allegedly harassment of officials in the name of seeking donations by various organisations. Various organisations have also in the past demanded relocation of the RO from Tezpur to Itanagar.
Despite such demands, the office continues to function from Tezpur. It seems that the MoRTH officials are not yet ready to shift back to Itanagar. The state government needs to look into this. Many genuine contractors who are engaged with the MoRTH are facing a lot of difficulties. Often they have to travel to Tezpur even for small matters. The state government should take up the matter with the MoRTH officials at the highest level, so that the office is relocated at the earliest. As it had been shifted out of Itanagar citing law and order issues, the state government should give full safety assurance to them.
