MIKONG, Apr 21: Issues related to health, sanitation and education were discussed during an awareness camp organized at Mikong village in East Siang district by social activist group BROS (Bilat Ruksin Oyan Sille) on Saturday.
During the camp, CDPO Onyok Panyang and Dr Ojong Padung informed the villagers about ICDS schemes that provide financial benefits to pregnant women. They apprised the villagers of waterborne diseases like malaria, dengue, etc, and their source, effects and reduction.
Earlier in the day, the BROS team conducted a cleanliness drive in the village with the help of the villagers. A tree plantation programme was held in the campus of the upper primary school.
Industries Director Rajeev Takuk and Elementary Education Director Tapi Gao also participated in the event. The two urged parents to pay attention towards the education of their wards. Mikong village secretary Tabuk Paboh lauded the efforts of the BROS and encouraged the villagers to implement what they learn from the camp.
Takuk contributed financial aid for purchasing books for the school, while Gao assured to recommend to the state government to start smart classes in the school.
The BROS team also contributed financial aid for constructing a girls’ toilet in the school.
