GST outreach prog conducted in Roing

ROING, 6 Jun: The state GST Department, in collaboration with the Lower Dibang Valley district administration, conducted a goods and services tax (GST) outreach programme at the DC’s conference hall here recently to enhance taxpayers’ awareness.

The initiative was part of a series of outreach programmes across the state, launched by the Central Goods and Services Tax’s (CGST) Itanagar Commissionerate in the run-up to the GST Day, to be celebrated on 1 July.

The event witnessed active participation of local traders, tax practitioners, and business owners, who engaged directly with officers from both the CGST and the SGST Departments.

Key officials, including Assistant Commissioner Samir Kumar Saha, Superintendent (CGST Namsai Range) Subir Chakma, Superintendent (CGST Itanagar) Abhijit Dey, and Superintendent (SGST Roing) Kingman Komut, among others, attended the programme.

During the course of the programme, several important topics were covered in detail. The participants were guided through the processes of GST registration, return filing, and record maintenance, with a view to simplifying procedures and clarifying common doubts.

The applicability of GST in works contract services, particularly in the context of the construction sector, was discussed comprehensively. The participants were also sensitized to the categories of goods and services exempted under GST, and how to assess eligibility for such exemptions.

Additionally, the mechanism of reverse charge and the provisions of GST applicable to royalty payments were explained in a clear and practical manner.

The CGST and SGST Departments reiterated their commitment to fostering a culture of voluntary compliance, transparency, and trust. They emphasized that such outreach initiatives are not one-off events but part of a sustained effort to bridge the gap between tax administration and taxpayers.

Earlier, a similar programme was held in Pasighat in East Siang district.
