16 ILP violators detained, externed

ITANAGAR, 1 Aug: Sixteen individuals without valid inner line permits (ILP) were detained over the past one week and later externed from the Itanagar Capital Region following court orders, Naharlagun SP Nyelam Nega said.

The ILP violators had been detained from various labour camps, work sites, roadside establishments, stone crusher sites, etc, in Karsingsa, Banderdewa and Papu Nallah by police teams from the Naharlagun, Banderdewa, Nirjuli and Papu Hills police stations, the SP said.

They were produced before the executive magistrates in Banderdewa and Naharlagun.

The police conducted the checking drives after registering non-FIR cases at the Banderdewa and Papu Hills police stations under relevant sections of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) Act, 1873.

“The checking drives were conducted peacefully and in accordance with legal procedure,” the SP said, and advised all non-residents to possess valid ILPs. He said that similar drives will be continued to uphold the law and protect the demographic integrity of Arunachal Pradesh.
