DAPORIJO, 16 Sep: A weeklong summer badminton championship tournament with the theme ‘No to drugs, yes to badminton’, organised by Khelo India Centre (Athletics) concluded at the Khelo India Centre at the Government Higher Secondary school here in Upper Subansiri district on Monday.
Upper Subansiri DC Tasso Gambo, who along with Kodak ADC Mobia Tai attended the closing ceremony, informed that there are sufficient badminton courts in the Daporijo, and that three badminton courts have been renovated with modern facilities with money from the DC’s untied fund.
He urged to all the denizens to avail the sport facility and to keep the district drug-free by adopting sports.
He added that the district has enough youth with potential to secure positions in national or international sports events.
The winners were awarded trophies, certificates and cash prizes.
In the veteran men’s doubles category (40+ age group), Tania Dobin and Tasi Mra secured the first position, while Taman Rai and Dr Dujom Dulom, and Tayum Marging and Charuk Pakmin secured the second and third position, respectively.
In the U-19 girls’ doubles category, Adam Doyum and Chand Kamra secured the first position, and Bata Doni and Dambika Doni secured the second position.
In the U-19 boys’ doubles category, Noha and Tagio Paying won the first prize, G Rava and Ruge Dignium won the second prize, and Social Nalo and Tajo Dulom secured the third position.
In the women’s doubles open category, Adam Doyum and Nini Baja stood first, Ania Leriak and Titel Maling stood second, and Yapak Nadi and Minu Mara won the third prize.
In men’s open doubles category, G Rava and Tania Dobin secured the first position, Rakju Rigia and Tajum Bayor won the second prize, and JJ Dubi and MB Leyu secured the third position. (DIPRO)
