ITANAGAR, Apr 28: Thirty-eight technical officers from the DRDA and the water resource department from 10 districts participated in the first phase of a series of five-day training programmes, conducted under Integrated Natural Resource Management (INRM) under the Saksham initiative, which concluded at the SIRD&PR here on Saturday.
Earlier, addressing the inaugural session of 23 April, RD&PR Secretary Rinchin Tashi outlined how the intricate relationship between water conservation and forest cover requires efficient management of water.
“With the growing use of science and technology and their application in the rural development programmes, it has become imperative to efficiently use the GIS and remote sensing techniques under Mission Water Conservation,” Tashi said, and advised the DTRTs and BTRTs to take advantage of the technical sessions for proper and timely use of available technologies for preparing INRM plans.
RD&PR Special Secretary Nyali Ete elaborated the growing concerns of water shortage in many parts of the state during critical months, and highlighted the importance of opportunities available under Mission Water Conservation (MWS).
MWS Deputy Director (Training & Research) Dr Vijay Kumar Sharma presented a brief on the Saksham initiative and the targets of 80 DTRT and 235 BTRTs who are to be trained under nine proposed programmes within the approved deadline of 20 July, 2018 by the MoRD.
During the five-day training, topics like watershed development, rainwater harvesting, water conservation, artificial recharge, water conveyance and irrigation systems, afforestation and horticulture, agri-horticulture, and agri-silvi-pasture development and management were discussed.
Technical expert from GIZ, Dr Krishan Tyagi and Society for Promotion of Wasteland Development’s programme director Dr Jagdish Kr Purohit were the resource persons.
