ITANAGAR, May 5: The Director of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Prof Rajiv Kumar Garg has provided a written statement to the Capital Police stating that he resigned from his post “solely due to personal reasons”.
Prof Garg, who was appointed five months ago by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) following widespread protests by students seeking facilities, including hostels and roads leading to new campus in Jote and full time director, had resigned.
While the director had cited family issues and poor functioning of the institute as some of the reasons for his resignation to the faculty members and others, internal sources informed that he has been receiving threats for the past few months and termed those threats as the reason for his resignation to the MHRD.
The faculty members also claimed that they did not have any clue about his resignation until last weekend when they came across an advertisement in the weekly publication, ‘Employment News’, seeking NIT directors for Arunachal Pradesh and Delhi.
