The second day of the sixth budget session of the eighth Legislative Assembly of Arunachal Pradesh was marked by serious deliberations and constructive initiatives. Legislators engaged in meaningful discussions that touched upon road infrastructure and institutional reforms.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s update on the construction of arterial roads in townships and villages across the state under the CM’s Comprehensive State Rural Development Programme highlighted the government’s focus on connectivity as the backbone of development. Rural Works Department Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona informed the Assembly that 1,254 of 1,309 PMGSY roads have already been completed. His appeal to local communities to cooperate in construction activities reflects the practical challenges that accompany road infrastructure projects.

Equally significant was the attention given to the upliftment of the Puroik community. Social Justice, Empowerment and Tribal Affairs Minister Kento Jini assured the Assembly that the government would pursue the matter of including the Puroik community in the list of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups with the Centre, thereby enabling access to special funds. This move signals a broader commitment to equitable development.

The Assembly also demonstrated its legislative resolve by passing five bills. These ranged from strengthening fire safety services and regulating education department postings to amending GST provisions, urban planning laws, and anti-defection rules for local bodies. Together, these measures reflect a holistic approach to governance.

The second day of the budget session highlighted the government’s commitment to steering the state towards growth. The true test will lie in translating these commitments into fruitful outcomes.
