NAMSAI, 25 Mar: The district-level football and volleyball tournaments (U-16 boys and girls) for the 9th Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy (HDMT) began at APIL ground in Namsai.
A total of 13 volleyball teams (5 girls and 8 boys teams) and 17 football teams (3 girls and 14 boys teams) are participating in the tournaments.
Addressing the young players, Namsai ZPC Chau Sujana Namchoom highlighted the importance of sports to stay physically fit and healthy. Namchoom advised them to stay away from drugs and focus on their education.
The CRPF’s 186 Bn Commandant Dharmendra Kumar Singh reminded the gathering of the sacrifice made by Hangpan Dada for the country. He encouraged the athletes to be brave and courageous, while also advising them to maintain discipline and develop leadership qualities.
District sports officer B.C Das also encouraged the teams to maintain sportsman spirit and discipline throughout the tournament.
The tournament is being organised by the department of sports in collaboration with the Namsai district administration. (DIPRO)
