ITANAGAR, May 16: An urban primary health centre (UPHC) was inaugurated here at Rakap Colony by Health and Family Welfare Parliamentary Secretary Phurpa Tsering recently.
The UPHC has been constructed under the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM), and will remain open 24×7 to cater to the needs of the public.
There are already three functioning UPHCs- one at Karsigsa, Pasighat, and here in Itafort.
The parliamentary secretary called on doctors to ensure quality healthcare to the people.
“Functionalizing the urban primary health centre will not only minimize pressure on the state hospital, but will also prevent many patients from dying from want of emergency medical aid”, he added.
Assuring to construct pavement and retaining boundary wall around the health centre, he exhorted everyone to keep the UPHC clean and urged the public to take keen interest and keep a watch on the functionality of the UPHC.
Tsering also inaugurated a labour room at the UPHC, Itafort.
Mission Director Tapasya Ragav stressed on maintaining all guidelines of ‘LaQshya’, a government of India initiative to provide quality labour room to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality rate.
Yupia DMO Subu Tasso Kampu called on everyone to maintain work culture and warned that dereliction of duty will be treated seriously. The DMO also directed the MOIC to maintain a duty roster.
A memorandum was also submitted to the parliamentary secretary to upgrade the dispensary at Itafort to an Urban PHC keeping in view the large number of patients.
UD and Town Planning Parliamentary Secretary Techi Kaso, Deputy Commissioner Prince Dhawan and Councillor ward no 27, Taba Takia also attended the inaugural event.
