NIGLOK-NGORLUNG, May 22: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein emphasized on making the Industrial Growth Centre (IGC) here in Ruskin subdivision of East Siang district fully functional at the earliest.
“Making the IGC fully functional would not only accelerate the economic growth of the area but also provide employment opportunities to the local people,” Mein, who visited the IGC on Monday to monitor the implementation of the scheme, said.
Saying there should not be any hiccup in the implementation of centrally-sponsored schemes in the state, Mein urged the district administration and line departments such as public works, power, PHE&WS, etc, to extend support to the IGC for its smooth functioning.
He said the state government would extend all possible support for the growth of the IGC, which is a project sponsored fully by the central government.
Mein asked the project manager of the IGC to submit the requirements of the centre.
On being informed that there was very poor or no mobile connectivity in the industrial area, Mein assured to ask the BSNL authority to install a mobile tower to cover the whole area.
He also urged the allottees to establish their industrial units as soon as possible.
With regard to the establishment of a Sainik School adjacent to the IGC, and other issues confronting the IGC, the DCM said a meeting would be convened soon with the ministers and officers of the industry, education, public works, power, and PHE&WS departments, the local MLA, and the East Siang deputy commissioner to sort out the issues.
IGC DDI M Jamoh informed that the industry department had acquired 582 acres of land in 1997, and that infrastructure like staff quarters, industrial sheds, medical centres, etc, have come up.
Plots to establish industrial units were also allotted to 12 prospective entrepreneurs, a few of whom have already started their works, he said.
He also informed that Rs 80,89,750 was realized as lease rent during 2017-’18.
Member of Parliament Ninong Ering, Parliamentary Secretary Tatung Jamoh, former minister Tangor Tapak, Education Special Secretary Himanshu Gupta, and Deputy Commissioner T Tatak accompanied Mein during the visit. (PRO)
