ITANAGAR, Sep 24: The Sustainable Development Forum of Arunachal (SDFA), the state chapter of Integrated Mountain Initiative (IMI) took part in the three-day Sustainable Mountain Development Summit (SMDS) -VI at Mizoram University, Aizwal which concluded on September 22 last.
SDFA Chairperson, Fantry Mein Jaswal, Secretary, Nalong Mize and Joint Secretary, Egam Basar highlighted and deliberated on the issues of Arunachal Pradesh.
During the summit, various sessions were held on climate change, sustainable mountain cities and mountain partnership, research and policy gaps, water and waste management in mountain states, and disaster risk reduction and management.
Policy Maker’s dialogue and Legislators Meet were held separately for the bureaucrats and MPs and MLAs of the various mountain states. Arunachal East MP, Ninong Ering represented the state at the Legislators Meet of the Summit.
Organised by the Integrated Mountain Initiative, the yearly event aims to push for separate policy for mountain states as the problems of mountain states are different from other states of the country.
Before the main summit, SMDS-Youth Summit was held at Aizwal from September 18 to 20 with an aim to sensitize the youths on climate change, global warming and its relation to the development of mountain cities.
Artists, Kompi Riba and Kenjum Angu, and beauty queen, Chum Darang participated and shared their experiences in the youth summit.
Youths from the mountain states — Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Manipur, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Darjeeling also participated in the summit.
