DAMBUK, May 29: Chief Minister Pema Khandu has assured the people here in Lower Dibang Valley district that he would take up the matter of the Bomjir-Paglam road project with the union road transport & highways ministry.
Addressing a public meeting here on Tuesday, the CM said a road is vital for changing the economic scenario of the area. He, however, suggested that the compensation demand should not become a hurdle in completing the project.
The chief minister assured to expedite the work on the stretch from Zero Point to Sissar along the Dambuk-Pasighat highway. The matter of land compensation is complete and the contractors will be asked to carry out work as soon as possible, he said.
Lauding WRD Parliamentary Secretary Gum Tayeng for launching flood protection activities in Patsing circle on time, the CM assured to fund the second phase of the flood protection work.
He also assured to “take up the project with the government of India in a composite way.”
To the demand for stationing of paramilitary force in Dambuk area to check intrusion of antisocial elements from the neighboring state, the CM assured to hold talks with DGP in this regard.
He said the government is taking all measures to strengthen law and order in the state.
“To strengthen the civil police department, the state government is creating more than 1000 posts under various categories. Also, a permanent high court in the state will be established soon,” he informed.
State BJP president Tapir Gao, Agriculture Minister Dr Mohesh Chai, Gum Tayeng, and Deputy Commissioner Mitali Namchoom also spoke.
Earlier, on his second day of visit to the district, Pema inspected the flood protection site at Patsing, situated near the 14 km point of the state’s longest bridge over the Dibang river.
In the last two years, the Dibang river that flows near Bomjir village has washed away more than 100 metres of the riverbank, inundating farmland and posing a threat to the Dibang bridge, according to the officials here.
The chief minister also drove along the 45-km Bomjir-Paglam road and inspected the site where the Sissiri river cuts through the road. The CM and the department officials who accompanied him discussed ways to improve the road.
The day also witnessed the inauguration of the BJP mandal office of the Dambuk constituency, and the laying of the foundation stones for the government higher secondary school, a 100-bedded girls’ hostel, and a Baane Gidii Notko by the chief minister.
This was followed by a brief presentation on the proposal for constructing infrastructure at the festival ground for the Orange Festival. (CMO)
