ITANAGAR, Jun 11: The All Kra Daadi District Students’ Union (AKDDSU) on Monday alleged that the Kra Daadi deputy commissioner misused over Rs 7 crore from the untied fund, and that he violated the laid down norms for execution of SIDF schemes amounting to Rs 1 crore 50 lakhs.
Addressing media persons at the press club here, AKDDSU president Gora Rikam alleged that the DC violated the norms in executing works with untied fund by not floating any tender notice and awarding work to contractors “on pick and choice basis, curtailing the right of other contractors to participate.”
Rikam claimed that the untied fund was spent on unnecessary projects not in the interest of the common people, and on already existing infrastructure.
“It is quite evident that Rs 30 lakhs was sanctioned for construction of a porter track from Rakso village to Radang via Napi Tagaso, in Palin circle, whereas the villages are well connected with PMGSY and NLCPR roads,” Rikam said.
The union also accused the DC of ignoring the health and education sectors, and said a larger chunk of the untied fund could have been spent on these two sectors in the newly-created district.
“There should be a thorough investigation of the implementation of the untied fund to see whether it was public-centric or just to benefit a few individuals. The union fails to understand why money should be pumped into a scheme which has already been executed recently,” the AKDDSU said.
The union has submitted a representation to the chief secretary, seeking an SIT inquiry to unearth the truth “within 20 days.” It said the government’s failure to address its demand would compel the union to “go for democratic protest in Kra Daadi district.”
Meanwhile, Kra Daadi DC Pige Ligu has denied the allegation. “The state government can institute an inquiry committee to prove the allegation,” he said.
