TUTING, Jun 18: The demand for creation of Tuting district, bifurcating Upper Siang, is gaining momentum with the Tuting District Demand Committee (TDDC) adopting a resolution to place the demand before the state government soon.
The TDDC adopted the resolution after a meeting which was held at the Solung ground here on 16 June.
“The name of the proposed shall be ‘Tuting District’, and Tuting, the ADC headquarters under Upper Siang district shall be the temporary headquarter of the new district,” the committee stated in a press release on Monday.
“The demand for the new district is a long cherished dream of the people of Tuting area and the creation of the new district would facilitate the much-needed socio-economic development of the people living along the international border,” said TDDC chairman Nima Sangey.
Apart from addressing administrative inconvenience in the vast geographical area, the creation of Tuting district is also urgently needed because of its strategic location, he said.
“The Tuting subdivision comprises Gelling, Singa, Palling, Megging and Tuting administrative circles with more than 10,000 populations and 1580 households. There are three zilla parishad segments, 17 anchal segments and 63 gram panchayats. Moreover, Tuting shares a more than 146 km border with China,” Sangey said.
He said he hoped that the state government headed by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, and RD Minister Alo Libang, who is also the local MLA, would look into the demand “in the greater interest of the people of the border area.”
Other members of the TDDC along with former ZPMs and ASMs of the area also spoke in favour of the new district during the meeting.
Public leaders, GBs, government officials, traders, and others also attended the meeting.
