ROING, Jul 14: A 45-year-old man from Bolung village in Lower Dibang Valley district has been arrested for repeatedly raping a mentally and physically challenged girl.
The rapist was immediately arrested by the police here after receiving information from the parents of the victim, in order to avoid any untoward incident involving the accused.
According to police, the accused, who is a relative of the victim and is himself a father of three, has admitted his crime. He had allegedly been raping the girl repeatedly for the last seven months, police said.
The crime came to light only on Thursday night, when the victim’s parents, who had gone to work and returned home early that day, saw their daughter coming out of the house of the man, who lived in the same neighbourhood.
The accused has been booked under Section 376 (I) (n) IPC, informed Inspector Abraham Taying.
“He will soon be remanded to judicial custody to avoid any repercussions from the public,” Taying said.
