ITANAGAR, Jul 20: A workshop on ‘Critical examination and finalization of the folktales of major tribes of Arunachal Pradesh’ was organised here on Thursday.
The folktales have been prepared by the pedagogy cell of the erstwhile SSA Rajya Mission as ‘Orchid’ series, targeting the children of classes 3 to 5, in order to enhance their reading habits and language skills.
Education Secretary Madhu Rani Teotia in her inaugural address emphasized that the folktales “should be error-free, contain good morals, and understandable to primary school children.”
Highlighting the importance of folktales “as ethnic recognition of each tribe,” she expressed desire to develop such materials for classes 6 to 8, covering all the major tribes of the state.
The ‘Orchid’ series is to be introduced in the pattern of the series by the same name developed and introduced earlier for the children of classes 1 and 2, in all the primary schools of the state, informed state pedagogy coordinator MB Singh.
ISSE: Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan Society’s deputy state project director Nangram Pingkap said the prime goal of the ‘Orchid’ series is to provide opportunity to children to develop the reading habit.
“The folktales included in the series would help the children to catch up with their imagination, perception and conception in their daily life,” he said.
NCERT Associate Prof Dr Varada Nikalje, SCERT subject specialist S Pradhan, State Pedagogy & Planning RP Dr AK Mishra, and members of literary and cultural societies of different tribes of the state also attended the workshop.
