CHIMPU, Aug 1: Seven visually impaired students of Donyi Polo Mission School for Hearing and Visually Impaired have passed the class X examination, conducted by NIOS, with flying colours this year. Six students with hearing impairment have also passed the class X examination this year, informed principal of the school, H Sharma.
The first batch of the visually impaired students appeared for the class X examination during 2016-17 and three students passed the examination, the principal informed.
“Most of the students, including the three first batch students (visually impaired) have taken admission in Montofort Training Centre in Tura and Jyoti Saroth School in Shillong in Meghalaya for pursuing of higher secondary education,” Sharma said.
Founded by former chief minister Gegong Apang in 1999, the DPM School for Hearing and Visually Impaired is the only and first of its kind school in the state.
The school was started in 1999 with only three students from Dibang Valley district.
Till date, 93 children have passed the class X from the school and most of them have been absorbed in various state government departments.
The school run ‘Donyi Polo Mission’ provides free education to the students.
The school for visually impaired was started in 2008 with five students from Kurung Kumey district.
