ITANAGAR, Aug 8: The Lower E-sector of Forest Colony Welfare Committee (LE-SFCWC) has strongly opposed the recent decision of the authorities to install a 33/11KV sub-station at Indira Gandhi Park central power house here, claiming that it will be in close proximity to a residential area which may put the lives of the people there at risk.
The committee in separate representations to the parliamentary secretary for UD & Housing & PWD and Chief Engineer (power) transmission, planning & monitoring zone earlier, had appealed to them to initiate urgent steps to ensure that the installation of the said sub-station is stopped and shifted to another location.
In a release on Wednesday, the committee claimed that despite the repeated objections of the residents of the park colony and the earlier assurance of the authorities to shift the sub-station to another location, the authorities have yet again decided to install it at the same area.
“On 9 March, 2018, the Capital Complex deputy commissioner issued an order to start the installation work which the residents of the colony strongly opposed. Following a long discussion with executive magistrate Henter Basar, OC T Bage, Itanagar, Power Grid Co-operation officers and Talley Phassang sub-contractor, along with members of the IG Park colony, it was decided that the sub-station will not be installed in the said area as land was insufficient and it was also risky for the residents,” the committee stated and threatened to launch democratic action if the authorities go ahead with the decision to install the sub-station.
