MIKONG, Sep 21: The school management committee (SMC) and teachers of the upper primary school (UPS) here in East Siang district organized an ‘educational awareness programme’ on Friday to promote quality education and to sensitize the parents to their role in educating their children.
“Education is the root of all-round development of the society, and it is a prerequisite for success in any sphere of life,” said District Institute of Educational Training Principal Biren Dutta, speaking as the resource person.
He advised parents to give attention to education and skill development for all-round development of their wards.
Lamenting that the local villagers are yet to see “the fruits of educational development” even after primary and secondary schools have been established in the area, Dutta urged the community’s people to “have introspection over the educational setback.”
He urged parents to maintain cordial relations with the teachers and take proper care of their children.
“School is an asset of the society and it should be utilized for creation of human resources. The community members have responsibility towards its maintenance and creation of suitable atmosphere of teaching-learning process therein,” Dutta said.
SMC member Gemin Modi urged the teachers, parents and community leaders to work together to bring quality education in their schools.
Woman leader Osing Taboh-Taloh exhorted mothers to play a vital role to ensure quality education for their children. Citing the ill-effects of mobile phones and the internet, she advised mothers to restrain their children from such gadgets and encourage them to take interest in education and extracurricular activities.
Senior teacher Talong Taboh stressed on good parents-teachers relationship for creating an academic environment in the area, while the school’s headmaster Tajing Messar spoke on building morality among school children.
Many other SMC members, including SMC chairman Tayop Tali, and teachers also spoke. They took a pledge to make the UPS a model school.
