ITANAGAR, Sep 21: Twenty-five teachers from 16 government and private schools participated in a ‘teachers’ training workshop on mathematics’ organised by the Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science & Technology (APSCST) at the Science Centre here on Friday.
APSCST Joint Director Dr Debajit Mahanta in his inaugural address said mathematics “offers rationality in our thoughts. It is a tool to make our life simpler and easier,” and added that mathematics “should be embraced by everyone to sharpen their talents.”
APSCST Deputy Director P Lombi urged the teachers to motivate their students to take interest in mathematics as they do in other subjects.
Tezpur University (Assam) Associate Professor Dr Bhim Prasad Sarmah, who was the resource person, said “Mathematics is a mother of all science. It makes a man methodical or systematic and helps improve the power of reasoning, creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving ability and effective communication skills.”
He described mathematics as “the cradle of all creations, without which the world cannot move an inch.
“Everyone needs mathematics in their day-to-day life and even an insect uses mathematics,” the professor said.
Dr Sarmah gave practical demonstration on teaching and learning mathematics in an easy way, and urged the teachers to come up with innovative methods of teaching the subject.
