KHONSA, Sep 22: The 7th state level Shito-Ryu Seiko Kai Karate-Do Championship got underway here on Saturday.
Around 300 karatekas and officials from 23 districts, and the Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy are participating in the two-day championship, Tirap DSO sources said.
MLA W Lowangdong, who attended the inauguration function, advised the young karatekas to maintain strict discipline to become good players.
He said discipline is the foremost thing for a player. The MLA advised the karatekas to demonstrate sportsman spirit.
Lowangdong also highlighted the scopes in sports and job reservation for talented sportspersons by the state government.
Superintendent of Police JK Meena encouraged the young people to be keenly interested in sports as the state government has given importance to games and sports.
The SP assured of his help in conducting any future sport activities in the district.
District Sports Officer Noah Mongku exhorted the participants to aim for competing at higher levels and win glory for the state and the country.
Mongku informed that cash incentives are provided to sportspersons who excel or win medals at regional, national and international levels.
Arunachal Shito Ryu Karate-Do Association technical director Bulang Marik, president Dr Marli Ete and general secretary Charu Tatung are overseeing the championship, which is being organized by the All Tirap District Shito Ryu Karate-Do Association under the aegis of the Arunachal Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Association.
