ITANAGAR, Sep 23: Cleanliness drives were organised in various parts of the state on Sunday as part of the ongoing Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA).
In Khonsa, the drive was conducted by the Swachh Bharat team of Tirap district in collaboration with the UD department and the market welfare committee.
Tirap SBA brand ambassador Ponghong Bayang urged the shopkeepers and businessmen of Khonsa town to conduct such cleanliness drives from time to time, especially in public places.
DUDA UPO Lienwang Hosai distributed dustbins and bamboo brooms to all the shopkeepers and participants.
In Namsai, Brahmakumari members participated in a cleanliness drive at the school in Satsang Nagar, the market in 2 Mile, and its surrounding areas.
In Itanagar, VKV Vivek Vihar carried out the drive in Police Colony with the participation of students and teachers. The neighbourhood of the school, including the foot over-bridge and pathways from Police Colony to Chandranagar, etc, were cleaned by the team.
In East Siang district, Ruksin MLA Tatung Jamoh took part in the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ (SHS) programme organised in Ledum village by the PHED on 21 September. He distributed dustbins and filters, and offered financial assistance for the village’s development. He also participated in a plantation drive.
Jamoh congratulated the village on earning ‘the cleanest village of East Siang award’ and for maintaining peace and harmony in the society.
“You have set an example for the entire district, making Ledum free from plastic, malaria, dengue, and other waterborne diseases,” he said.
The MLA urged the district administration to conduct more people-oriented programmes like ‘Sarkar aapke dwar’ to provide government services.
DC Tamiyo Tatak advised the government officers to play a proactive role in spreading awareness at the grassroots level on the schemes and programmes of the government, and PHED EE M Dupak presented a report on programmes under the SHS programme. (With DIPRO input)
