PASIGHAT, Sep 25: Farmers from various parts of the state, along with women groups and students, are participating in a two-day ‘tribal technical and skill empowerment’ training programme under the TSP/NEH which began here on Tuesday.
The programme is being conducted by the College of Horticulture and Forestry (CHF) here, in collaboration with Bangalore-based ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticulture Research (ICAR-IIHR).
During the inaugural programme, which was chaired by CHF Dean Dr BN Hazarika, ICAR-IIHR’s principal scientists Dr Meera Pandey (mushroom research) and Dr G Senthil Kumaran (APHT&AE division) described mushroom technology as being highly suitable for Arunachal because of the state’s climatic conditions, and the organic nature, high nutrition value and easy method of cultivation of mushrooms.
Agriculture Deputy Director YJ Lego also attended the inaugural programme.
Over the two days, the farmers will be trained in production and utilization technology related to mushrooms, and the low-cost structures of the machinery used in mushroom cultivation.
