ITANAGAR, Oct 4: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has announced to take out a peaceful rally in the state capital on 15 October to press its demand for an SIC investigation of the capital district administration for not adhering to the rules while taking up the four-laning work on the national highway.
Addressing journalists at the press club here on Thursday, AAPSU general secretary Tobom Dai said, “The tardy pace of work on the Trans-Arunachal Highway (TAH) and anomalies in the disbursement of compensation against the project have for long marred the progress of the project, and it is time the government takes urgent steps to address the issue.
“We have waited for a very long time and now our patience is running out. We will be compelled to initiate further phase-wise protests if the GoAP fails to address our demands soon,” he said.
Dai also said the union endorses the demands made by various organizations following the fiasco in the TAH project on the Ziro-Yachuli-Itanagar stretch of the highway.
Citing various anomalies created by the capital administration with regard to the four-laning of the highway, AAPSU president Hawa Bagang said the specified 30-metre width within the township area and 40 metres in the open spaces were not maintained on the national highway in violation of the concept of four-laning.
“As per the 2016 government notification, it has been specified that there will be 30 metres width within the township area and 40 metres in open spaces on the national highway, and that no compensation will be paid against any government forest or agri-horti land. However, in 2017, Capital Complex administration issued a notification superseding the earlier one, as per which compensation was granted to all land owners, violating the very norms,” he said.
