JORHAT, Dec 6: The Assam Rifles (AR) organized an ex-servicemen (ESM) rally here in Assam on Thursday with the aim of reaching out to the AR’s ex-servicemen and strengthening the bond between serving and retired personnel.
Addressing the ESM, the Assam and Arunachal Range DIG lauded them for serving the nation with dedication and sincerity.
“The contribution and sacrifices made by the ex-servicemen are praiseworthy and they should take pride in being a part of the oldest paramilitary force of the nation,” the DIG said.
He asked them to encourage their children to join the armed forces, and assured that the welfare of veterans was a top priority for the AR.
The DIG also interacted with the ESM and addressed their grievances.
Honouring the contributions of the martyrs who laid down their lives in the service of the nation, the veer naris and widows of the brave soldiers were felicitated during the programme.
Other features of the programme included an awareness camp on the AR’s welfare schemes and a free medical camp for veterans and their families.
More than 300 people, including ESM, veer naris and widows were present.
